What price are you looking for? What do you want to do with the computer? For instance, if you only want to create word docs, excel spreadsheets and surf the web, that's one machine. If you want to watch movies, access TV on hulu.com, play games, etc., than that's a whole different machine and a higher price point.

300+ EBay auctions. 1 bad one. Never had a bad online store purchase. So both percentages would be close to zero.

My sister got ripped off for the first time on ebay. She won an auction on an item, sent a check, it cleared, and it's been 3 wks since she's seen the items in the mail. She's emailed this individual, but no response. She turned them into ebay with no response as of yet. So I would say 1%.

There's no reason to get ripped off shopping online. Talk to someone who knows what they're doing.

I'd say 5% of the time. I don't shop online much. The only time something's been wrong is one time when I ordered a used hardcover book from Amazon and it came as a paperback. I just ate the cost and ordered another.

I don't think I have ever been 'ripped off' from online-shopping. I buy a lot of things online because there are many things I want that I can't even find around here. I have only ever had a few problems. The most recent was when I ordered an mp3 player for my sister at Christmas, and it arrived completely broken. They refunded my money completely (even the shipping) and let me keep the broken one including the headphones and software. The only other problems I've really had included items taking too long to arrive, sending wrong size, etc. I have been very fortunate so far. (knock on wood!)

I have a HP camera, the basic models are around $80 or so ( and they still have a few extras!), or you could go up -- I sell on ebay and it's perfect! they are pretty easy to use as well!
Good Luck!

For objects photographed from a distance of 3-4 feet, absolutely any digital camera and any "digital photographer" can get a suitable image. Don't forget that the largest picture eBay will display (unless you are hosting your own images) is 800 x 800 pixels or less than 1 megapixel. For jewelry or other small items, you have to learn macro technique. You can also do this with almost any digital camera, but here's an article that I wrote about jewelry in specific. I am sure that you will find it helpful.
The best way to take photos of jewelry for a web site is with a digital SLR and a macro lens. If you are not going to go with a DSLR, almost any point and shoot with a macro mode will serve you well. The thing is, I feel that you need to use the flash to force the aperture to close while still having enough light for an exposure. Many here will tell you different, but follow this advice and see what you think.
Use your macro setting and experiment. Let's say you have a point and shoot camera with macro and a flash on the camera. You might have to go to a manual mode to do this, but...
Put your item on a nice background surface. I like to just put it in a ring box or on some velour. Zoom out at least half-way so that you will be working about a foot away from the ring. Be sure that you get focus confirmation. Shoot a picture USING flash. Check the LCD for the result. If you have overexposed the item, use the EV adjustment to reduce the exposure. For small items, I often find that I need to reduce the exposure by about 1.0 EV. (That's -1.0 EV.) It is better to have the item properly exposed and the background underexposed, so just worry about the jewelry for now. Using a deliberate underexposure will cure the "too shiny" appearance of the stones and metal.
If you know how, you can use either full manual exposure or just Aperture Priority and choose a smaller aperture (larger number) to make the ring show up in better focus.
If you have a DSLR, post your question again stating the kind of camera that you have and the lens that you are using and we will give more details.
If you are doing any image processing at all, such with Photoshop or it's cousins, you can crop the image to 800 pixels by 800 pixels and use Supersize images on eBay. I always use the Picture Pack when I am selling anything of any value.
Check out http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/hear… which I did a while ago using a Nikon Coolpix 5400 exactly as described above. I do NOT think this is acceptable, but we decided not to sell the ring anyhow, so I didn't bother to do a better job. It's still better than some I've seen. I don't keep old photos of sold items around, so I don't have much to show you, but at least you know that it's possible to get an acceptable result even without spending huge dollars on your equipment.
The key things to remember are:
-Macro setting
-Zoom out to get about a foot away from your subject
-Use flash
-Try different EV settings and expect that you will end up with a negative EV setting, such as -1.0 EV.
I happen to have some photos from old auctions on an FTP site. I think that these were all taken with a 3 MP Nikon Coolpix 885.http://members.aol.com/swf08302/carvina.…http://members.aol.com/swf08302/skullfro…http://members.aol.com/swf08302/konkontu…
(The patch is about 4 inches long.)
Here are a couple of coin photos done exactly as described, but using a D200:http://www1.snapfish.com/slideshow/Album…http://www1.snapfish.com/slideshow/Album…
I did these with my Nikon Coolpix 4600, just to show you what a really inexpensive camera can do. It's a 4 MP camera that I paid about $150 for a couple of years ago.http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstei…http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstei…
Here are a couple more auction photos done as described, using a 60 mm macro lens on a DSLR:
800 x 800 http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/york…
800 x 800 http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/mont…
800 x 800 http://www.flickr.com/photos/7189769@N04… (light box)
800 x 800 http://www.flickr.com/photos/7189769@N04…
I finally posted that auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie…
If you are interested in a full description of an SLR set-up, post a new question and ask specifically for that information. I'm gathering from the nature of your question that you might be in the point and shoot market.

In my judgment....especially with a car.....you have to be able to touch it, smell it, look at the engine...have a mechanic look it over and drive it...none of these can be done on-line. That is pure risk with no rewards.
Of course, P.T. Barnum said that There's a sucker born every minute. Be careful

They're only good if you can inspect the vehicle before making a bid on it. Otherwise your taking a chance. I would suggest you go to a car auction that takes place at a physical location. If you don't know where any are near you, you can buy a list that will tell you of all the sites located near your home.

Do a simple rearch for "Work at home" from any browser and you'll get more responses than you can handle. The cheapest one I've seen is for $2.95 to get started.
(It's legit too, cause I get it through a Web site as a subscriber).

I'll second the recommendation for Inbox Dollars. I've written a blog post about getting your first $30 from Inbox Dollars.
The main problem with finding sites like this that are legit is needing to go through all the scam sites. I use Marketing Pond, which is a collection of prescreened sites guaranteed to payout when they say they will. See my Marketing Pond Review for a list of legit programs.
Good luck!

Hi
No scam...Promise. I am a stay at home mom, and it gives me an extra 50 bucks a month or so, with a sign-up bonus. Read the letter, and you can judge for yourself. Or google the company,
like I did myself, prior to joining. Good luck. Feel free to email.
Thanks for your interest in this position. It’s really easy and can be done in 10-15 minutes a day. Just click on emails that are sent to your email address. I personally recommend creating an email address to use just as your working email. Since providers like Yahoo and Hotmail provide these for free, this is easy to do. It is not necessary, but I have learned it is helpful to have a working email address to keep your business life and your personal life separate.
To sign up (which once again costs you NOTHING, and you get a $10 sign up bonus toward your account), visit the site I have listed near the bottom of this email. Once you get there, you fill out a little bit of info, including your email address. They then send you an email, and you have to check it to make sure you have correspondence with them; then continue the application process (i.e. your name and address so they can send you checks). Then you can pick up to 25 interest categories. Definitely be sure to check off the maximum of 25 so that you will receive the maximum number of ads possible. Pick ones having to do with home-based businesses, marketing, finance, real estate, and some health & nutrition groups. I only tell you this because these are the categories that send you the most paid advertisements. Then it takes about 24 hours (sometimes much less) for you to get authorized, and you're ready to go. You will start to receive emails from Hits4Pay that say you have new paid emails.
Once you join, I can send you additional info about building up your referral base in order to earn more money (this is the way you will see the money add up), with people working together, just like you and me! So be sure to contact me after you start receiving your emails so I can help you earn even more (all still free, and very easy to do).
You can go to your membership account at any time, type in your password and user name, and get to your paid ads. If you have any questions or concerns, they have a frequently asked questions section on the home page that is really helpful, with info about how you get paid, etc… Please let me know if you have any questions.
PS: Hits4Pay is listed in Forbes magazine

My Power Mall would be perfect for you. Plus it is free, gives you free tools, and you don't need to invest any of your own money.
It's also fun so it won't even feel like work.
There is a link in my profile, and you can sit back and watch a video on how the whole thing works before you sign up. No surprises, and no catches.
Best Wishes,
Alicia
